After many years of being taboo, discussions regarding extraterrestrial life and unidentified ariel phenomena (UAP) are becoming mainstream and are even happening in the United States Congress. For example, the Senate Intelligence Committee asked the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense to provide an unclassified report on UAP. In 2020, the Pentagon took a significant step forward when it established an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force. The Office of the Director for National Intelligence released an unclassified preliminary assessment on UAPs that listed 143 unexplained sightings of UAPs since 2004. The federal government confirmed these sightings not to be U.S. aircraft or technology. A bipartisan bill was introduced and signed into law by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, which would create an “Anomaly Surveillance, Tracking, and Resolution Office” to use all assets from the intelligence community to understand UAPs.
Thanks to our recent work with A10 Associates, MUFON is excited to announce that the common term unidentified flying object (UFO) has been updated to Unidentified Ariel Phenomena (UAP), adding legitimacy to the topic. After having been shut out of the policy-making process in Washington DC for decades, we have now been able to brief members of the House, Senate, and key committees about our work tracking UAPs. MUFON’s name even appeared in a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) brief. Through educational meetings with legislators, A10 and MUFON helped lawmakers better understand UAPs and our decades of intelligence can better inform policymakers.
