Legendary UFO researcher Dr. Bruce Maccabee died of natural causes at his home in Lima, Ohio on May 10, 2024. He was a distinguished optical physicist with the United State Navy (retired). He had just celebrated his 82nd birthday!
Wikipedia states, “Maccabee received a B.S. in physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, and then at American University, Washington, DC, (M.S. and Ph.D. in physics). In 1972 he began his career at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, White Oak, Silver Spring, Maryland; which later became the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. Maccabee retired from government service in 2008. He has worked on optical data processing, generation of underwater sound with lasers and various aspects of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) using high power lasers.
Dr. Macabee was an early member of The National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) and joined MUFON in 1975 becoming Maryland’s long time State Director. Dr. Maccabee was also a pianist who performed at the 1997 and 1999 MUFON symposia.
Among his most famous investigations were The Gulf Breeze Incidents, The Phoenix Lights, and an analysis of the McMinnville photos.
He wrote dozens of white papers and authored or contributed to several books, including, “UFO are Real, Here’s the Proof,” “Could UFOs be Real,” and “The UFO/FBI Connection.”
All of us at The Mutual UFO Network send our condolences to Bruce’s family. His expertise will be sorely missed.
