CINCINNATI, OH — The Mutual UFO Network, known worldwide as MUFON, is deeply saddened to announce the passing of its Executive Director, David “Dave” MacDonald, who passed away the morning of June 7 following a series of respiratory complications. Dave was a longtime leader within MUFON and a respected voice in the global UFO and UAP research community. His years of service helped guide the organization through important chapters in its modern history, including a period in which the UAP subject moved into mainstream public discussion, congressional hearings, national security conversations, and renewed scientific interest.
MacDonald first assumed leadership of MUFON in 2012, helping guide the organization’s operations and public mission. He later returned to lead MUFON again, continuing his work during a transformative era for the organization and the field at large. A professional pilot, businessman, former county peace officer, and founder of Flamingo Air, Dave brought a unique blend of aviation knowledge, investigative discipline, organizational experience, and personal passion to MUFON’s mission. He also served in multiple leadership capacities within the organization, including Executive Director Emeritus and STAR Team Director.
“Dave MacDonald devoted a significant part of his life to MUFON and to the serious study of UFOs and UAP,” said Debbie Ziegelmeyer, longtime MUFON board member and Executive Vice President. “He believed in field investigation, witness testimony, data collection, and public education. Most of all, he believed in the people of MUFON. His loss will be deeply felt throughout the organization and the broader UAP community.”
Ziegelmeyer will assume the role of Acting Director. Her leadership will help ensure continuity for MUFON’s members, State Directors, Field Investigators, volunteers, researchers, and the broader public as the organization moves forward while honoring Dave’s life and legacy. MUFON extends its deepest condolences to Dave’s wife Sharon, his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew and worked with him. The organization also recognizes the many State Directors, Field Investigators, board members, volunteers, researchers, and members who shared in Dave’s mission and friendship. Further details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared when available and appropriate.
Founded in 1969, MUFON remains dedicated to the scientific study of UFOs and UAP for the benefit of humanity. In honoring Dave MacDonald’s life and service, MUFON will continue the work he cared so deeply about: collecting reports, investigating cases, preserving data, educating the public, and pursuing the truth with integrity.
